Model 500 Dehumidifier/ Chiller

Model 500 is a refrigerated system replacing the conventional ice tower used for dehumidifying the intake air to the CFR octane knock engine (lab as well as on-line engines). Room air is filtered as it is drawn into the unit by the CFR carburetor. It is designed to chill the inlet air to 1.5° to 3.5°C. The temperature is adjustable via a front mounted digital indicating controller.

Model 500 comes fully assembled and is ready for connection to the Waukesha supplied humidifier tube leading to the carburetor. It also comes equipped with all needed plastic tubing for connection to the carburetor via a front mounted quick disconnect in and out couplings. The tubing is insulated to prevent sweating. A separate set of connections is provided by quick disconnect couplings for hoses for chilling the sample fuel bowl.

The easily accessible, front mounted control panel includes main power switch, power switch for the pump, and a display for bath temperature control.

Model OA-871 Octane Engine Automation

Upgrading of Waukesha CFR laboratory octane test engines is now available and fully conforms to ASTM D2699 and D2700 test methods (including procedures A, B, & C). Unlike other systems, there is NO modification to the CFR engine, and on-the-fly switching from automated to manual operation is done by a simple turn of the fuel selector valve and a single electrical switch.

All ASTM method tables are automatically corrected for barometric pressure with internal certified sensor.

The software provides step by step check list and instructions that aid an even a low skill operator to follow the correct procedure. Operator errors are reduced and data precision is improved.

The system (depending on the degree of automation chosen) provides significant savings of operator’s time, freeing him to other more productive activities during the engine running phase.

Maximum fuel level is automatically determined using strictly ASTM procedure. Automation increases drastically repeatability and precision of “maximum fuel level” determination.

The software facilitates PRF and TSF blending by doing all the needed calculations and intallation is simple with minimal amount of maintenance required once installed.

Automated Blender Shell for Octane and Cetane Reference Fuels

We have five semi automated blender models and eight fully automated models. The fully automated models automatically prepare the reference fuels for the CFR octane and cetane engines.

One set of blenders is based on the original ASTM methods specified procedure using volume (burettes) as the basis for the blend. Recently, ASTM approved the use of weight (precision balance) as the basis of preparing the blend.

The volumetric blenders use a laser meniscus detector driven along the burette length measuring the volume with a precision of 0.02 mL. Three burettes, one each for iso-octane, heptane and toluene. The burettes are automatically filled, either via pressure or gravity feed of the fuel components.

Windows XP based software controls all blending operations. The operator inputs the desired octane or cetane number, the software performs all the needed calculations, and 400 mL of fuel is delivered. Blend data is saved on the hard drive and a blend report is printed.

With each model with burettes, manual blends operation can be done if required, using the burettes and filling/draining valves.

The gravimetric models operate in a similar fashion, but use a precision electronic balance to weight in the blend components.
