Lawler offers a wide range of constant temperature test baths conforming to ASTM D130, D1838, D4048, D4814 Annex, IP227, and ISO 2160 copper corrosion tests for fuel and lubricants. Specify which test method(s) are desired for proper model selection. Pressure vessels are used for more volatile products like gasoline and aviation fuels versus the test tube procedure used for lubricants, diesel, and biodiesel.

Model 279-8 is a stainless steel liquid bath able to accept 8 test bombs and 8 test tubes for the D130 test method. Alternate test racks are available.

The temperature range of Model 279-8 is 40° to +115°C, optionally to 190°C, with temperature stability of ±0.2°C. Temperature is controlled with a digital display controller with 0.1°C resolution. A float switch interrupts power to the bath in the event of low bath fluid level.

The bath is mechanically agitated to insure test point to test point uniformity. A cover over the bath is provided to reduce evaporation (if water is used as a bath medium).

Model 279-12 is identical to Model 279-8 except it is larger and able to accept 12 test bombs 6 test tubes. Alternate racks are available.

Lawler copper corrosion baths are also suitable for the silver corrosion test method that is part of the ASTM D4814 gasoline specification.

The ASTM D130 test is used at various temperatures for the following samples:
• Aviation gasoline, aviation turbine fuel, @ 100°C in a test bomb
• Natural gasoline, @ 40°C in a test bomb
• Diesel fuel and fuel oils, automotive gasoline, @ 50° to 100°C in a test tube
• Cleaners and kerosene @ 100°C in a test tube
• Lubricating oils @ 100°C and higher in a test tube

Suggestions for ordering accessories

• Test tubes and pressure vessels. One per position, minimum

• D130 copper and D4814 silver corrosion tests are not long tests, so a pressure vessel for each test position, which is expensive in relation to the overall cost of the bath, may not be needed. Also consider the frequency of testing

• When ordering D130/D4814 pressure vessels, additionally one test tube is required for insertion into each pressure vessel with the test sample.

• One Viewing Test Tube is generally purchased for each test position. After each test the copper strip is placed inside so that it is not contaminated by touching during observation. Less viewing test tubes may be ordered depending on the frequency of testing and whether or not all test samples are to be reviewed simultaneously for result.

• Copper and silver test strips, as specified in the methods, are required for each test position. They are re-usable by polishing with sandpaper and/or silicon carbide powder in a special vise. They are consumable so 6-12 (or more) spares should be ordered.

• One Polishing Vise is required to hold the test strip without touching while it is polished.

• Inserts convert the larger bore pressure vessel holes in blocks for use with a test tube and maintain good heat transfer. One per position

• Split Sleeves are required for each pressure vessel used in the pressure vessel block baths. One set per position.
